our governance
At BADU COMMUNITY C.I.C. we are committed to upholding the highest standards of governance and transparency, particularly as a recipient of public funding through Sport England. As part of our commitment, we adhere to the Code for Sports Governance, which sets out essential principles across structure, people, communication, standards and conduct, and policies and processes. In line with the Code’s requirements, we strive to ensure that our governance practices are robust, inclusive, and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. We are fully committed to ensuring compliance with all aspects of the Sport England Code and have made significant progress in establishing a strong governance framework.
Since starting our governance process in September 2024, we are in the early stages of building out our Board of Directors, with a strong focus on inclusivity, equity, and creating an environment where all voices are heard and valued. This is central to our approach, as we work to create a governance structure that not only operates effectively but also provides opportunities for those whose perspectives are often underrepresented and or silenced.
Our governance framework is guided by The Badu Way, a philosophy focused on empowering individuals for lifelong success by equipping them with the necessary tools to overcome and challenge systemic barriers. This philosophy is grounded in a growth mindset and the belief in bridging the “dream deficit” — the idea that many individuals, particularly from underserved communities, lack access to the networks, opportunities, and resources that others often take for granted. Through this lens, we are committed to building a governance process that reflects our mission and values, ensuring that the leadership structure is as inclusive, transparent, and impactful as the work we do on the ground. In the coming months, we will continue to build our governance capacity and ensure our processes align with Sport England’s Code.

Our Board of Directors is in its initial stages of development, and we are excited to introduce our current Board members, whose bios are available below. As our governance process evolves, we will continue to grow the Board to best reflect the diverse backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives of the community we serve. We believe that governance is a process of continuous reflection and growth, and we look forward to sharing our progress and upcoming steps as we build a truly inclusive, equitable and impactful governance structure.
